I’ve said it many times before. Those in-between-meal snacks not only can curb your hunger, they keep your metabolism running and provide energy. However, we often give in to unhealthy snacks from convenience stores or vending machines. Then, not only are we not satisfied, sometimes we end up with a little extra weight too.

In an article for Yahoo Health, Lisa R. Young, PhD, RD, adjunct professor of nutrition, food studies and public health at New York University and author of The Portion Teller, explained, “the most common snacking mistakes people make is that they don’t pay attention to portion sizes, eat straight out of the bag, and think they can eat as much as they want of healthy foods. The ideal snack provides protein or healthy fat and fiber.” Most important to keep in mind: Snacks should always stay under 200 to 300 calories.
